so long without figure drawing

finally got some figure drawing going...

(the simple line work were sketches done in 2 min each, and the others with shading were done in 8 min each.)

These are great--am starting my first figure drawing class and go through phases of encouragement/discouragement. Was wondering how long it took to get to the point where you felt in the zone sketching proportional figures and block in shadings in 2/8 minutes?

Thanks for the updates--they are very inspirational!

  5. That's so great to hear that you're just starting out and taking art classes! I'm excited for you. I firmly believe that drawing (moreso actually SEEING) is definitely a skill which anyone can learn, and of course, the more you practice, the better you will be, quicker.

For me, getting 'in the zone' with the human figure can come really quick, and sometimes it takes 3-4 warmup drawings (like 1 min gestures). Typically if I do figure drawing daily, or very often, then I already feel zoned in and ready to focus the way I need to. It kind of resemble the feeling of meditating, a little...sinking into drawing and really let it fill up all of your concentration. Full focus is what it takes to do good work, for me anyway, and at the same time it's not a chore either.

I wish you the best with it :)
