new year, old bones

I got a skull to draw from - ram with horns. It's very complex and intricate, taking much time to draw. And although it's not ball point, like r_sail's suggestion, I did have fun using gel pen. My favorite are sanford uniball GEL, med point with just a simple plastic stick holder - no soft grip, no bells or whistles. Just a plastic stick...and unfortunately, they are no longer sold in any store in America (made in Japan, sold only online now - boo)

  2. Isn't that just the way, you find something that works well and they stop making it.

This skull looks good. It reminds me of cow-skull still lifes that I was looking through last night.

I also wanted to say that the portrait you posted earlier looks really great. I love the shading and texture on it. Sometimes it's hard to allow myself to shade the face properly. Wonderful stuff!!

  3. It seems that no matter what you have in your hand you make it look easy.

  6. The only gel pen I ever use is my white ink pen... but I fucking love that thing. I don't know what I'd do without it.

You know, check out chinatown (if you have one) I find all kinds of shit they don't technically sell here, in chinatown. Plus way better selections on rice paper and sumi ink.

    Great drawing!

  7. Thanks for all the nice comments! Old bones are super fun, and a little creepy at the same time.

yes! I love my white gelly roll too - can't live without it. Thanks for the chinatown tip, I didn't think of that. Wish I was near one...perhaps it's a good excuse to visit NY again. Miss it there anyway.
