Face studies. Painting and drawing are soooo different. I suppose anyone that has tried both knows that, but it kind of slapped me in the face today. I have a love affair with line, so I'm just going to have to mix the two somehow...still working on how.

  1. I have also tried to combine the two. I've tried painting into charcoal, so that the paint lifts up and carries the line. That worked well. With watercolor I love drawing on the finished painting. It's scary sometimes, but fun.

These faces are great. You make me feel like such a slacker. I don't think I've posted something in weeks.

By the way, I tried to view your blog earlier, and it never came up except for the background color.

    Have a great day

  2. Yeah, I had to change my template so the blog would show up - I don't know what was going on.

Thanks for your advice on the paint and drawing frustrations. That's cool about working with charcoal.

  3. I always paint on my drawings.

I'll ink it, paint on it, go back over the inks, probably paint some more, go back over the inks again in a few spots for touch ups, and then it's off to Photoshop.

Sometimes I'll lightbox the inks and paint on another piece of paper/board and Photoshop them together.

  4. I agree with bgoz...... I feel like such a slacker. I have put "draw daily" on my list of goals for next year. Its so easy to drop a habit and so hard to start a new one.

Thanks for the heads up on the "polycrylic for a protective gloss". I'll check it out.

Your face studies look great... Looks like you are a natural at line and painting......
