Dante's Inferno
Recently finished reading Dante's Inferno, and maybe it has influenced my palette. Either way, I plan to be more conscious of those choices and broaden the scope of colors now. I'm liking the painting a day idea more and more...will keep going for now.

I haven't read Dante's Inferno, although I've picked it up a couple of times. Is the image from the story, or just the palette?

On this piece I like the blue you added to the background. In fact the whole background makes me think of the sky. With the white clouds building on one side, and the dark ash from the volcano spreading from the other.
I guess that makes the figure the volcano. There is a certain landscape feel to the way you painted them.

ReplyDeleteNo, she's not a particular character, I think it's just all the char and burning red/browns that have been in my mind. The best part of that story, in my opinion, is that the deepest parts of hell are frozen :) Not what I would have first thought. The cool thing is that the people that go to hell are called shades, as if they are shadows of their physical skin. Pretty cool imagination going on there. If you have a quiet weekend, I'd recommend reading it.
I really like her hair... how it just fades out into the background.
