"Sea" for Illustration Friday

(Close up view above)

I've had this thing for drawing octopus images lately. So I thought it fitting to post this one for Illo Friday's subject of "Sea".

My favorite part of a poem about the sea:

"There is a silence where hath been no sound,
there is a silence where no sound may be,
in the cold grave-under the deep, deep sea."

- Thomas Hood

  2. Very interesting, what medium are you using?

  3. Thanks for the comments. This was done using a gessoed surface, I then transfered a drawing that I had done on regular paper, onto this surface using a xylene marker blender. From there I coated the whole thing with wood stain (smells horrible, but with time it airs out enough).

  6. Looks wonderful! Bitumen is another alternative to wood stain you might like to experiment with. Excellent reesults!

  7. Very nice; the wood grain has a fluidity that replicates the gentle current of the sea. Also like the one tentacle that is reaching for the viewer.
